This is what I’ve been working on for Campus Rec Department, well, just a portion of it. It is a general information (Quad-fold?) brochure explaining their 5 different programs:

Aquatics, Group Fitness Classes, Informal Recreation (Facilities), Intramural Sports and Sport Clubs.

The Exterior is one color (PMS 268) <- Logo color

Interior is CMYK, which is what the client wants, I know, it seems backwards, but I think it’s working out so far…

This brochure is pretty straightforward and conservative; serving both students and faculty/staff, it kinda had to be. It took me about a couple of weeks to get to this point, with research included. Had to work with crappy photography. I don’t know, feedback is waaay welcome, since it’s not finalized. Thanks!

Only because there hasn’t been a lot of activity here, I’m uploading a pdf of what I’m currently working on.

The idea is to increase our firefighter membership base. We have awesome products and services exclusively for firefighters and we want them to take advantage of them.

This is to reflect our mission and values and to aesthetically reflect our website, www.sffirecu.org.

Bear in mind that this is corporate design, and although that’s not a bad thing, there’s not too much wiggle room for creativity.

Design has many rules that claim to be big truths and full of wisdom. Designers all go by rules that work for them. However, their rules may not work for someone else, or for a particular piece of design work. When a rule is forced upon you, it stops working and becomes a joke, like “Never use a PC,” or “Leave it until the last minute,” or the most famous of them all, “Less is more.”

While we’re talking about photography…

I recently saw this amazing documentary called “War Photographer”, about James Nachtway, who is a photojournalist who shot a lot of images of war and proverty.

There weren’t too many words spoken in the documentary, which seem appropriate. Just like how his images say so much more than anyone ever could about the same subjects. Seeing what he does and how he works speaks plenty, even without much of an explanation. But half of it is in a different language because I think a swiss company co-produced it. Anyway, if you get a chance, check it out! It’s on netflix, or I can get you a copy. Trailer
